A Rockville Centre woman was killed early Monday when her car veered off the Southern State Parkway in Islip and struck a tree, State Police said in a news release.
The Nov. 4 crash occurred at 4:22 a.m., officials said. State police are investigating the one-car crash, which occurred just east of Exit 42, along the Hecksher Parkway extension of the Southern State Parkway in North Bay Shore.
Investigators said a 2001 Hyundai Sonata left the roadway and struck a tree on the right shoulder of the parkway. The driver of the car, Johanna Taveras, 33, of Rockville Centre, was pronounced dead by an emergency medical technician at the scene.
During a majority of Monday’s rush hour commute, the parkway was closed between Exits 43 and 42, according to the state transportation department’s website.
New York State Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call investigators at 631-756-3000.
