Contrary to prior reports, WJLA TV news in Washington indicates that a woman driving a black Infiniti with a child inside who crashed into a police car and a barrier near the White House did not initiate the shooting today.

When she did not stop the car as ordered and drove away, police pursued her and fired on the vehicle. They soon learned that a small child was inside the car, which bore a Connecticut license.

Video on the scene showed a small African American girl being carried away by police. It is believed the child who was in the vehicle was taken to Children's Hospital for examination. The injured officer is being treated at Washington Hospital Center. Recent reports indicate that the woman suspect was shot and killed.

The incident led to the lockdown of the White House and the US Capitol.

Meanwhile, the US Capitol Police are expected to receive a standing ovation for their swift action from a grateful Congress when they reconvene.

Investigations are still underway. Visit the Washington Post website for continued updates.
