A Jackson woman was indicted Monday on charges related to abusing an elderly person, according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department.
Candace Singleton, 41, of Jackson, was indicted Monday by the Madison County grand jury for abusing a former resident of an assisted living facility. Indictments were returned charging Singleton with attempted aggravated assault, simple assault and abuse of adult.
The release said Singleton is free on a $5,000 bond. Her arraignment is scheduled for March 11 in Madison County Circuit Court.
The release said on Aug. 6, 2012, Elmcroft Assisted Living reported to Jackson police an incident of possible abuse to a former resident by Singleton. She was an Elmcroft employee at the time of the report. The abuse occurred at Elmcroft's Heartland Village community, located at 921 Old Humboldt Road.
The police investigation showed that on Aug. 2, Singleton intentionally abused the resident. Police arrested Singleton Aug. 14 at her Jackson apartment.
"At Elmcroft, we take any allegation of resident abuse very seriously and our primary concern is always the safety and well-being of the residents in our care," the facility said in a news release. "Since learning of the incident, we have conducted our own internal investigation and have fully cooperated with the investigation conducted by local authorities."
Singleton was terminated by Elmcroft as a result of the foregoing investigation, the release said.
