A woman was hit and killed after she got out of her vehicle to check on a driver whose car she had hit from behind Monday morning in southwest Atlanta.
The deadly wreck led to the shut down pf a major south side highway for more than two hours, officials said.
And so far police have not released the name of the victim or the driver whose vehicle she struck.
The incident happened about 7 a.m. at the intersection of Camp Creek Parkway and Welcome All Road, according to Georgia State Patrol.
The woman was attempting to make a left turn onto Welcome All Road when struck another vehicle, pushing that vehicle into the wood line, GSP’s spokesman Mr. Gordy Wright said.
“The driver that hit the vehicle got out of her car and was going to check on the other driver when she was hit by an oncoming BMW,” Mr. Wright said in an e-mail. “The female pedestrian was killed.”
The driver of the vehicle that was initially hit was taken to a local hospital for treatment,” he said. It’s unclear if her injuries are serious.
The driver that hit the pedestrian remained at the scene, Mr. said.
All lanes of Camp Creek Parkway in both directions remained closed for more than two hours.
