Officers responding to a call Tuesday morning thought they were dealing with an accidental wreck — until they investigated the body of the driver and realize it was a homicide.

Someone had shot Ms. Manju Gurung Poonmagar, 37, of Marietta, according to Cobb County police. But so far, they have no idea who did it or why.

The investigation began shortly before 1:20 a.m. when officers responded to the Westminster Square Apartment complex at 2401 Windy Hill Road in Marietta, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

Someone had called 911 to report a wreck on the property, he said.

“When they arrived, they discovered the body of a female, who was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound inside her automobile,” Sgt. Pierce said.

He did not say where the woman had been shot.

The woman’s body was turned over to the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office to officially determine the manner and cause of death.

Anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to call Cobb County police at (770) 499-3945.
