A woman fell on subway tracks and died in a tragic New Year's Day accident on Jan. 1, 2013 at approximately 5 a.m. The victim was killed when she was struck by a train. Although her name has not been released to the media, police did say that the young woman was in her 20s.
According to The Huffington Post, the woman fell on the subway tracks and died at the No. 2 line station on 34th Street and Seventh Avenue, which is just one stop away from Times Square where locals and tourists alike had ushered in the new year just hours before.
This is the second death in the New York City subway system in just a matter of weeks. Late last month in NYC, a woman named Erika Menendez allegedly pushed a man to his death. The woman admitted she shoved 46-year-old Indian immigrant Sunando Sen into the path of a moving subway train. The man was struck and killed. Three days later, Menendez was arrested for the crime. Although Sen was Hindu, not Muslim, the suspect told authorities, "I pushed a Muslim off the train tracks." She was charged with a second degree murder as a hate crime on Sat., Dec, 29, 2012.
No further details were immediately available about the woman who fell on the subway tracks and died on Tuesday morning in New York City.
