Woman facing life in prison for trying to rescue seven ducklings from the road

Emma Czornohaj pulled over to the side of the road and parked her car when she spotted a family of ducklings trying to cross the road without their mother. Emma being an animal lover thought she was doing the right thing in trying to protect these little waddling babies four years ago.

This good deed according to the Inquistir in an updated story yesterday on this account it turned out to be the wrong thing to do. The actual incident occurred four years ago and while Emma was parked on the side of the street a tragic accident occurred.

Two motorcycles were driving down that same road at almost the same time in Canada. Andre Roy, fifty-years old was speeding down the highway 10-20 miles per hour over the posted 50 mph speed zone with his daughter, Jesse who was sixteen-years old riding on the back. His wife was following behind, but driving slower than her husband.

For some unknown reason Andre Roy crashed into the parked car that was on the side of the road that belonged to Emma Czornohaj. Emma is twenty-five years old and was convicted on two counts of criminal negligence causing death to another. The charge carries a life sentence as well as two counts of dangerous driving which has a sentence of fourteen years in prison.

It is very hard to imagine that Emma was charged and sentenced in this situation since she was parked on the side of the road. Roy should not have been speeding with his teenage daughter ridding with him, nor was he paying much attention to his surroundings. If he was aware of his driving he could have easily avoided smashing into a parked car at eighty miles per hour, resulting in not only his death but the death of his daughter Jesse.

The prosecutor in this case thought this situation should set an example of Emma and made his case accordingly upon this opportunity to prove a point of criminal intent. Everyone is sure the only intent this day was to save seven little baby ducklings from being killed on the highway where no one could possibly see them in time if they were speeding down the road.

This is a very unusual case and the jury involved convicted her even though no real criminal intent was tied to her actions. Emma’s attorney should be filing an appeal of Emma’s case shortly to try and get the verdict and sentence overturned.
