The New York Daily News has reported a Collegedale, Tennessee mother named Linda Cooper, has been expelled from her church for not publicly denouncing her lesbian daughter’s relationship. Kat Cooper, her daughter, is married to a woman and is also a detective with the Collegedale Police Department.
Linda Cooper had attended the Ridgedale Church of Christ for nearly six decades. The church asked her to either publicly denounce her daughter’s lifestyle or leave the church. She chose to support her daughter.
Ridgedale Church pastor Ken Willis gave a statement about the incident:
“The sin would be endorsing that lifestyle," Willis said. “The Bible speaks very plainly about that. You certainly can't condone that lifestyle, whether it's any kind of sin—whether they're shacked up with someone or living in a state of fornication or they're guilty of crimes. You don't condone it."
