A woman on a drawbridge became stranded when the drawbridge opened carrying her 20 feet into the air. On Oct. 14, ABC News reported that the Florida woman was participating in a 5K to raise money and awareness for breast cancer when she found herself in a very dangerous situation. Wanda McGowan crossed a railroad bridge when it began to rise. She clutched onto the wood beneath her and dangled in the midair.
"The bridge McGowan was walking across is operated remotely and has a sign that warns pedestrians not to trespass. It’s unclear why McGowan was crossing the bridge," ABC News reported.
The woman drawbridge incident went on for about 20 minutes before firefighters could get her down safely. McGowan hung on tight to her bright pink handbag, determined not to fall -- or let it fall. Several witnesses called 911 and when firefighters arrived, they were able to erect a 24-foot ladder and rescue McGowan. The footage is pretty incredible to see and McGowan is very lucky that she didn't fall off.
At this time, little is known about McGowan or why she decided to cross the bridge. It's unknown if she was injured at all but minimally she had to have been shaken up.
