Woman convinces company to bulldoze trailer of neighbor she dislikes

Some people go a little too far in their efforts to try and clean up the neighborhood, like, for instance, 62-year-old Ana Maria Moreta Folch of St. John's County, Florida, who decided one day that a trailer she said she owned that set on the property adjacent to hers needed to be removed. She would later tell police that she had hired a land-clearing company to bulldoze the trailer and its septic tank as a "favor" to the neighborhood. So what went wrong? Why did Ana Maria Folch have to speak to the police?

Long story short, Ana Maria Moreta Folch was arrested, Yahoo News reported May 8. The trailer she had hired the company to bulldoze did not belong to her, even though she had produced a key to the trailer's door to convince the heavy machinery operators that the property was indeed hers. Nobody lived there, she said, and she wanted the land cleared.

But during the demolition, another woman showed up demanding to know what was going on. As it would turn out, the woman, Maria Gottfried, owned the trailer.

Gottfried explained that she had owned the now demolished trailer since 2006. She also insisted she had never given Folch a key.

The police were soon involved.

According to The Florida Union-Times, the arrest report revealed why Ana Maria Folch wanted the trailer bulldozed. She told police that the “people who had lived there were unsavory and she suspected they had broken into her car. She said she considered it a favor to her neighborhood.”

Folch's act of neighborly philanthropy caused $25,000 in damages to the Gottfried property. She was charged with criminal mischief, a third-degree felony, and was subsequently released by authorities after posting $10,000 bail.
