Spartanburg County, SC - An alert garbage collector saved a small dog from certain death on Thursday.
According to WSPA News, while doing the typical trash collection route, a garbage collector noticed a trash can moving and looked inside to investigate.
A Shih Tzu was discovered inside of the bin - still alive, but apparently set out to be taken away with the rest of the homeowner's garbage.
The man confronted the homeowner about the dog. Initially, the woman denied that she owned the "throw-away" dog, but later admitted that it was hers and took the dog inside.
The garbage collector left, but alerted authorities to the disturbing situation.
When the authorities later arrived to the same home, they discovered the same dog, bagged up and tossed into the same garbage bin outside of the residence.
The woman suspected of twice-over throwing her dog into the garbage, Nancy Jeanne Smythe, has been charged with "ill treatment of animals".
The victimized dog was taken to the Greenville County Animal shelter for care.
Thankfully, aside from a skin condition, the dog was unharmed.
Smythe must have missed the memo: Do not throw living creatures into the trash.
Many thanks to the garbage collector who took the time to investigate that moving trash can and to call the authorities to file a report. This story would be much different right now if not for your efforts.
