Woman accused of stabbing her cousin’s cat to death

Until last night, Tish Coleman, 31, used to share an apartment on Chicago’s South Side with her cousin and her cousin’s cat. Last night the two ladies got into an argument that escalated into a wrestling match according to The Chicago Sun-Times. Police say that after the argument, Coleman fatally stabbed her cousin's cat and left the pet lying on the apartment’s stairwell.

Today, Officer Laura Kubiak of the Chicago Police Department News Affairs Division explained that when the Saturday night argument ended, Ms. Coleman left the apartment and reportedly continued to make a disturbance outside.

Coleman’s cousin went outside to look for her, but found only blood on the apartment’s stairwell “and her year-old, brown-and-white cat bleeding from its left side.”

The cousin contacted the police who caught up with Coleman a short distance away from the apartment, carrying a Swiss pocket knife in her purse with blood on the blade.

Tish Coleman was arrested at approximately 8 p.m. last night and charged with one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals, and one misdemeanor count of domestic battery.

Coleman was expected to appear in court today to face her felony charge.
