Woman accused of having sex with teenager appears in court

A 56-year-old Utah woman appeared in court Tuesday on allegations she had sex with a teenage boy.

Kathleen Campise-Kreiser has been charged with one felony count of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16 or 17-year-old in Third District Court in Salt Lake City. Authorities allege that Campise-Kreiser had relations with a 17-year-old boy at her home in Kearns, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court. The teenager told police he first met Campise-Kreiser near a Walmart store. On Sept. 30 of last year, he said he went to Campise-Kreiser’s residence and they had intercourse.

Campise-Kreiser was arrested Jan. 6 following an investigation by the Unified Police Department, according to Salt Lake County Jail records. Tuesday’s court proceeding was the initial appearance for the case.

The name of the teenager is being withheld.

Also on Tuesday, Judge Katie Bernards-Goodman ruled that Campise-Kreiser was unable to afford her own attorney and appointed Salt Lake Legal Defenders to represent her.

A scheduling conference for the case has been slated for Feb. 13 before District Judge Robin Reese.

Campise-Kreiser is currently free on $10,000 bond, according to court documents. Attempts at finding a phone number to reach her for comment have been unsuccessful so far.
