A 79-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed by a car after stepping onto a Marietta road Wednesday night.
But police said they don’t expect to charge the 25-year-old woman who struck her.
Still, they are trying to determine why the woman stepped in front of the car, according to Cobb County police.
The incident happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Roswell Road, east of Old Canton Road, police said.
Investigators said Ms. Rachel L. Odom, of Marietta, was driving a white Nissan 300 ZX eastbound on Roswell Road in the right turn lane when for reasons unknown, the elderly woman entered the roadway and was struck by the car.
Ms. Maria D. Roxo, of Marietta, was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
“Investigators do not expect to file charges in this case,” Sgt. Pierce said.
Still, the investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call (770) 499-3987.
