A woman was killed and three others, including two juveniles, were injured in a two-vehicle collision early Saturday afternoon in Cobb County.

The crash happened shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Mars Hill Road in Powder Springs, according to Cobb County police.

Investigators said Ms. Irene Giannangelo was driving a white 2011 Ford Escape northbound on Mars Hill Road just south of Nichols Road when for unknown reasons she crossed over the double yellow lane lines into the southbound lane of travel and collided with a white 2006 Mazda MPV driven by Ms. Julia Rivera.

Ms. Giannangelo was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where she succumbed to injuries, police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman said. Ms. Rivera, 31, of Powder Springs, was transported to the same hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

“Two of the three juvenile passengers were transported by ground ambulance to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta Scottish Rite Hospital where they are being treated for non life threatening injuries,” Officer Bowman said.

The third juvenile passenger was not injured in the collision and was released to a family member on the scene, he said.

The collision remains under investigation, but no charges are expected to be filed, Officer Bowman said.

Anyone with information about the crash that may assist investigators is asked to call (770) 499-3987.
