Woman, 24, allegedly shot her husband in the face during an argument in Sumter

A Sumter woman was arrested after allegedly shooting her husband in the face during a day-long argument at the couple’s home.

Now her husband Mr. Brandon Harris is fighting for his life and she has been placed in jail after allegedly confessing to the crime, Sumter police said Tuesday.

Investigators said Ms. Brittany Mackie, 24, was charged with attempted murder in the incident that happened shortly before 9 p.m. Monday.

Officers responded to 322 South St. after getting a report from neighbor about a shooting, police spokesman Lt. Don Florence said.

“When officers arrived at the scene they found 26 year old Brandon Harris lying on the floor in a bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound to the face,” Lt. Florence said.

Witnesses told police the couple had been arguing throughout the day and that during an argument they heard a gunshot.

“Mackie was interviewed by detectives and admitted to shooting Harris,” Lt. Florence said.

Officers recovered a .38 caliber handgun at the scene, he said.

Ms. Mackie was arrested and transported to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.

Mr. Harris was transported to Tuomey Regional Medical Center for initial treatment then transferred to Palmetto Health Hospital in Columbia where he remained in critical condition Wednesday.
