A woman allegedly stabbed her live-in boyfriend to death Monday night in southeast Atlanta. And police on Tuesday were still trying to determine what prompted the crime.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as Deandre Smith, 25, of Atlanta. As of early Tuesday morning they said the autopsy had not been completed, but that the cause of Smith’s death appeared to be the result of a stab wound.
The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. at an apartment complex at 40 Mt. Zion Road, according to Atlanta police. Officers responded to Apt. 1 after getting a report of a person stabbed, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said. She did not say who made the call to 911.
When officers arrived they found the victim already dead from a stab wound to the chest, Jones said.
“The preliminary on scene investigation revealed that the decedents live in girlfriend stabbed the victim during an argument,” Jones said. It’s unclear what the two were arguing about and it’s also unclear if anyone else was in the home at the time of the incident.
Police arrested the suspect, 21-year-old Destiny Wilson, a short distance away from the crime scene, Jones said. So far, they have not released any details on the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and it was also unclear where Smith was in the home when he was stabbed.
Several officers were seen gathering evidence at the scene around 11 p.m., according to media reports. But it’s unclear if they have found the murder weapon or what type of weapon was used.
Wilson was charged with murder and transported to the Fulton County jail where she remained Tuesday morning, according to booking records. It’s unclear how long Wilson and Smith had been together and whether or not police have any prior involvement with the couple.
