Bethesda Softworks released the latest trailer for "Wolfenstein: The New Order" on Tuesday. As the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC shooter's release barrels forward, this new video shows how players can take the stealthy approach or the cause all sorts of mayhem. Either way, alternate history Nazis will die in a violent fashion.
The " Exploring Wolfenstein: The New Order – Stealth vs. Mayhem” trailer opens in shocking fashion before an old man that was hiding you in the trunk of his car implores B.J. Blazkowicz to kill all the Nazis. He does so stealthily at first using knives and then by equipping a pistol with a silencer all while a soothing alternate history musical piece plays in the background. The level is designed in such a way that Blazkowicz has tunnels to sneak in through and rooftops to climb and zipline over.
One eye-catching thing in the video is the lack of an aiming reticle while using the pistol. We’re not sure if that is a UI element that wasn’t picked up in the video or if there is an auto-aim feature in the game. Either way, the player controlling Blazkowicz was getting one shot kills with the pistol while firing from the hip.
After the Nazis have been killed stealthily, the video quickly rewinds back to the point that the old man implores Blazkowicz to kill all the Nazis. Now it is time for the mayhem part of the video and that means guns, big guns and dual-wielding big guns.
This section of the video is definitely more insane as a more fast-paced song pumps in the background and Blazkowicz tears through Nazi soldier after soldier. This also reveals some of the dangers of this approach as more of the mechanical enemies begin to appear.
It’s good to see developer MachineGames not make “Wolfenstein: The New Order” a pure run-and-gun just because the franchise’s history dictates. Still, it will be interesting to see how many players will take the stealth route.
“Wolfenstein: The New Order” is due out for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on May 20. Pre-orders come with access to the “Doom 4” beta.
