'Wolfenstein: The New Order' launch trailer twists another rock classic

The release of “Wolfenstein: The New Order” to the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC is just around the bend. Betheda Softworks put out a launch trailer for the game on Thursday to give one last push before the game hits store shelves and to remind everyone of the “Doom 4” beta pre-order bonus that comes with it.

The game takes place in the 1960s but it is an alternate universe where the Nazis won World War II and taken over the world. They are still very much the maniacal bad guys that they’ve always been but now they have all the power thanks to crazy advanced weaponry.

The launch trailer continues the theme of taking a popular pop song from the 1950s and spinning it into a German-themed musical piece. We won’t spoil it for you here by giving away the song though. Still, the trailer does its job of setting up the who, what and why for “Wolfenstein: The New Order.”

Players hop into the shoes of William "B.J." Blazkowicz once again to help lead the resistance against the Nazi regime. After waking up from a 14-year long catatonic state, Blazkowicz must infiltrate Nazi strongholds, kill lots of Nazis and take over Nazi super weapons. One thing is for sure, Nazis will be involved.

While the gameplay keeps the expected fast-paced first-person shooter elements that made the original “Wolfenstein” so notable in its day, developer Machine Games is mixing things up a bit by adding in stealth elements as well. That means players will have the choice between going in guns blazing and blowing everything up or sneaking their way around and tactfully killing their foes.

“Wolfenstein: The New Order” is set for release on Tuesday, Sept. 20 on the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
