Wolf Pack's Jones named Player of Week

Nevada Wolf Pack pitcher Karlyn Jones has been named the Mountain West Softball Player of the Week by the web site College Sports Madness (collegesportsmadness.com).

College Sports Madness selects a Player of the Week for every conference in the nation.

Jones pitched in four of the Wolf Pack's games this past weekend at the Mustang Classic in San Luis Obispo, Calif., winning all three of her starts.

Jones beat Northern Illinois on Friday, 8-3, allowing five hits and three runs in seven innings. She beat Rutgers 2-1 on Saturday, allowing just four hits and a run in the eight-inning game. On Sunday she beat Rutgers again, this time 12-0, allowing four hits in five innings.

For the week, Jones pitched 21.1 innings and allowed just 13 hits and four runs while striking out 23.

The 5-foot-7 junior is now 8-4 on the season with a 3.48 earned run average. The Spanish Springs High graduate is in her second year at Nevada after spending her freshman season at the University of Pittsburgh.
