Wolf Pack rolls over Rutgers

The Nevada Wolf Pack softball team closed out the Mustang Classic in San Luis Obispo, Calif., with a bang.

The Wolf Pack won for the third consecutive time, trouncing Rutgers 12-0 in just five innings.

The Pack, which has now won four of its last five games, is now a game over .500 at 13-12.

Megan Sweet and Megan Fincher each hit home runs in the rout over Rutgers. Sweet hit her third homer of the season, a two-run shot in the second inning for a 4-0 lead. Fincher hit her fifth homer of the year in the fourth inning, a three-run blast that gave the Pack a 10-0 lead.

Fincher now has 17 RBI and Sweet has nine.

Karlyn Jones blanked Rutgers over five innings to pick up her eighth win against four losses. Jones allowed just four hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out three and lowered her earned run average to 3.48.

The Wolf Pack, which had 13 hits, scored in all five innings.

Erin Jones had a RBI double and Sara Parsons drove in a run with a single as the Pack took a 2-0 lead in the first. Sweet's two-run homer followed in the second inning and Lauren Lastrapes singled home a run in the third inning for a 5-0 lead.

The Pack broke the game wide open with five runs in the fourth. Parsons had her second RBI single and Jasmine Jenkins added a RBI single in the fourth before Fincher put the game away with her three-run homer.

Jenkins, who now has 12 RBI, also drove in a run with a single in the fifth.

Erin Jones had four hits and now leads the Pack in hitting at .395.

The Pack beat Rutgers twice in the Mustang Classic, though the first game was nothing like the second. The Wolf Pack beat Rutgers 2-1 on Saturday.
