This time the Nevada Wolf Pack softball team could not overcome Kadi Henderson.
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds' third baseman had three hits, drove in four runs and hit a three-run home run Sunday morning to beat the Wolf Pack 9-5 in the final game of the Libby Matson Invitational at Stockton, Calif.
Just a day earlier Henderson hit a grand slam but the Wolf Pack rallied for a 6-5 win over the Thunderbirds. Henderson was 4-for-7 with three runs scored, eight RBI and two home runs in the two games against the Wolf Pack.
The Wolf Pack fell to 9-11 with the loss after dropping their final two games in Stockton and winning two of their first three. Southern Utah is now 3-12.
The Wolf Pack, needing a victory to climb back to .500, took a 1-0 lead on the Thunderbirds with a RBI double by Lauren Lastrapes in the second inning. Southern Utah, though, scored three times in the third off Pack starter Megan Dortch and six times in the fifth against Dortch and reliever Karlyn Jones to take a 9-4 lead.
The Pack scored three runs in the third to take a brief 4-3 advantage. Ashley Butera had a two-run double for her ninth and 10th RBI of the season and Megan Fincher drove in a run with a single. The RBI was Fincher's 13th of the season.
The final Pack run came in the fifth on an infield single by Jasmine Jenkins that scored Sara Parsons. Parson was 2-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored and is now hitting .279 this season.
Dortch allowed six runs (five earned) and six hits and three walks in four innings to suffer the loss (3-6). Jones allowed three runs and six hits and a walk in three innings.
The Wolf Pack will play five games Friday through Saturday in The Mustang Classic in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
