The Wolf Pack played last Friday and Saturday against non division opponents. At least you could say they played well enough to win or that they were competitive or that they were in both games. They earned a point but bottom line is they lost both games. They lost to Wilkes Barre/Scranton 2-1 in a shootout and they lost to Worcester on Saturday night 3-2. The Wolf Pack have not lost to the Worcester Sharks at home since October 10, 2010.
Thanks to the Utica Comets and the San Antonio Rampage the Pack are not last in the league in points.
There are problems with the Pack defense. Stu Bickel, Dylan McIlrath and now possibly Aaron Johnson are out injured. The team lacks defensive experience and depth without those guys in the game. The defense maybe inexperienced right now but the Wolf Pack are not being blown out in games, they have only lost by more than three goals twice all season.
The Pack continue to lack the offensive punch needed to string wins together. They are averaging only 2.27 goals a game and haven't had a margin of victory greater than three or scored more than five goals in a game. The Pack have been shut out six times this season and have lost their last six games that have gone to shootout. The Pack have lost all 18 games where they have scored two goals or less.
The lack of offense doesn't help in bringing the team any attention either. Attendance for the Wolf Pack is 3,586, you would think people would come out to see a winning team but not when you consider the Springfield Falcons. The Falcons have the best record in the league right now but they only draw 45 more fans than Hartford is right now(Springfield 3,631).
The Wolf Pack have the rest of the week free from games until they play the Sharks again but this time in Worcester. They will have to try to get back on a winning streak starting on the road.
The next Wolf Pack home game is Friday January 24. Every Friday is a 1 dollar hot dog and 2 dollar beer game night. The food is better and the deal is still the same.
