The Nevada Wolf Pack baseball team emptied out its bullpen Tuesday afternoon in San Francisco and it paid off in another victory.
The Wolf Pack used seven pitchers to defeat the San Francisco Dons, 7-3, at Benedetti Field in a non-conference game. The Pack, which opens its home season Friday afternoon (2 p.m.) at Peccole Pack against Utah Valley, is now 3-1 on the season.
Griffin Kirsch, the only Pack pitcher to allow an earned run, earned the victory (1-0) with 1.1 innings of work in relief. Daniel Levine started and went three innings, allowing just three hits and two unearned runs in the first inning while striking out four.
Barry Timko, Troy Marks, Jayson McClaren and Matt Gardner each pitched a scoreless inning for the Pack. Sean Prihar pitched two-thirds of a scoreless inning.
The Wolf Pack took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the second inning.
Austin Byler hit the Pack’s first home run of the season to lead off the inning. Kewby Meyer doubled and scored on a single by Brooks Klein and Joe Kohan drove home Klein with a single after a sacrifice bunt by Garrett Yrigoyen.
The Pack increased its lead to 4-2 in the fifth as Jay Anderson tripled and scored on a squeeze bunt by Kyle Hunt.
The Wolf Pack, leading just 4-3, then broke the game open in the ninth with three runs.
Two of the runs came home on bases-loaded walks to Brett Jones and Carlos Escobar and the third run scored as Cameron Brooks hit into a double play with the bases loaded.
