The Wolf Pack played a division game yesterday. It was the first divisional game of forty that the Pack will play within the Northeast Division. With 12 games against Bridgeport and Springfield and 8 games against Adirondack and Albany, you can imagine the teams get to know one another well. The Wolf Pack scored 4 times off Devil goalie Kieth Kinkaid, who finished with 18 saves in the game. The Pack trailed 2-1 and 3-2 but was able to battle back to tie and eventually take the lead and win the game 4-3.
J.T. Miller, who was just sent down from New York, got his AHL season off quickly. He scored two goals and had an assist as well. Danny Kristo assisted on two goals and it was Dylan McIlrath who scored the game winner in the third period. Jason Missiaen got the start in net over Cam Talbot, and he made 23 saves in the victory. Missiaen played very well making some very key saves late. Missiaen challenged Talbot for the starting job late last year during the Connecticut Whale's playoff push. At six foot eight inches Missiaen is an intimidating net protector. The cross bar of the net is about at his waist line.
It might have been missed by the small crowd of 2,128 but with 6:22 remaining in the first period, during a face off break, on the Jumbotron appeared a close up of the 2000 Calder Cup championship banner accompanied by the sound of Brass Bonanza being played. There had been speculation that the song may not be heard in the XL Center for hockey anymore. Brass Bonanza was the goal song of the Hartford Whalers and was used recently as a goal song for the Connecticut Whale.
The Wolf Pack are home again this Friday as they will play division rival the Adirondack Phantoms. It would be the return of former Whale/Wolf Pack player Kris Newbury but he was recently called up to the Flyers organization. Newbury played over 200 games for Hartford notching over 200 points in that time as well. Game time on Friday is at 7pm and there are plenty of seats available. Global Spectrum is promoting a dollar hot dog and two dollar beer night on Friday night games.
