Wolf Pack baseball team picked to finish third in six-team Mountain West

The Nevada Wolf Pack baseball team has been picked to finish third in its first season in the Mountain West, according to a vote of the league's six head coaches.

The conference has just six baseball-playing schools.

Defending champion New Mexico has been picked to win its second consecutive regular season Mountain West title. The Lobos received five first-place votes. San Diego State received the remaining first-place vote to edge out conference newcomers Nevada and Fresno State for second place.

UNLV was picked fifth followed by Air Force.

The Wolf Pack won the Western Athletic Conference regular season title in 2012 with a 32-25 overall record and 11-7 in conference. The Pack is led by WAC All-Conference performers Bradey Shipley (9-4, 2.20 ERA), Tom Jameson (7-2, 2.55), outfielders Brooks Klein (.335, eight homers, 42 RBI) and Jay Anderson (.286, 36 runs scored) and first basemen Kewby Meyer (.324, 34 RBI) and Brett Jones (.299).

The Wolf Pack opens its season with four games Feb. 15-18 in Mesa, Ariz., against Kansas.
