Wolf Pack backup QB Magleby leaves for Sacramento State

Mason Magleby is leaving the Nevada Wolf Pack.

The Sacramento Bee reported this week that the Wolf Pack's third-string quarterback has transferred to Sacramento State and will begin classes on Monday.

Magleby, who will be a junior in the fall, completed 10-of-11 passes for the Wolf Pack this season for109 yards and four touchdowns without an interception playing behind starter Cody Fajardo and backup Tyler Lantrip.

Magleby, who will turn 21-years-old on April 29, also ran the ball 11 times for 67 yards in his two-year Pack career. Magleby is returning to the area where he was a three-sport star in high schjool at Del Oro High in Loomis, Calif. Magleby led  Del Oro to three league titles in football.

Magleby joins a Sacramento state Hornhets team that went 4-7 in 2011. The Hornets are coached by former Wolf Pack quarterback Marshall Sperbeck. In two (1981-82) seasons with the Wolf Pack, Sperbeck completed 253-of-509 passes for 3,425 yards.

The Hornets return three quarterbacks in 2012, two that saw extensive playing time in Garrett Safron and Tommy Edwards. Starter Jeff Fleming, who passed for 1,128 yards and seven touchdowns, was a senior in 2011.

The Wolf Pack depth chart in 2012 at quarterback is expected to have Fajardo as the starter abnd red-shirt freshman Tanner Roderick as the backup. Devin Combs, a sophomore in 2011, is also expected to compete for the No. 2 job.

The Wolf Pack has had a busy week this week as both offensive line coach and running game coordinator Cameron Norcross and defensive coordinator Andy Buh have left the program. Norcross has joined the Fresno State staff (offensive line) and Buh will coach linebackers at WIsconsin.
