The Nevada Wolf Pack has received a verbal commitment from defensive back Elijah Mitchell of Roosevelt High School in southern California, according to Rivals.com.
The highly sought-after Mitchell had also received offers from Army, Boise State, Colorado state, New Mexico State and Wyoming. He visited the Wolf Pack last week after visits to Army and Wisconsin.
The speedy, 5-foot-9, 165-pound Mitchell had three interceptions and 33 tackles this past season for Roosevelt. He also played wide receiver and averaged 28.6 yards on his 12 catches (three touchdowns).
Mitchell is also one of his the fastest high schools seniors in southern California. He has run the 100 meter dash in 10.5 seconds and the 200 in 21.3 seconds. He also competes on the Roosevelt relay teams.
Mitchell and his sister Angela, who is also a track athlete at Roosevelt, were involved in a serious automobile accident a year ago, according to the riverside (Calif.) Press-Enterprise. The Mitchell siblings were passengers in the car on the way to school in the fall of 2011, which was struck by a truck driven by another Roosevelt student near the Roosevelt campus.
“It was crazy hat day, our friend had one and he was talking about it, and it happened so fast,” Elijah told the Press-Enterprise. “We were talking about hats and then we were on the curb. But it’s OK, life goes on. It would’ve been (scary) — if we weren’t so strong.”
The first day football recruits can sign their National Letter of Intent is Feb. 6.
