The historic Wolf Creek/ Pine Run Grist Mill in Loudonville, Ohio is giving history enthusiasts a living history lesson when they attend their annual Pioneer Days ay the Mill event being held on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27. It is approximately a 1.5 hour drive from Cleveland to Loudonville.
Pioneer Days at the Mill This family-friendly, educational event set amidst a picturesque landscape will feature an early 1800's encampment where re-enactors will give visitors information about pioneer life during the era. Guests will also be able to enjoy some hands-on pioneer crafts and a variety of demonstrations (including buck skinners) and live, old time music will fill the air during the Pioneer Days event.
While at the event be sure to check out the historic grist mill which was built in 1831. The grist mill was moved to its present site in 1970 and was restored to operating condition by Mark Smith and his all-volunteer groups, Friends of the Mill. Don't miss a visit to the observation deck above the mill.
You will also want to pay a visit to the Welcome Center on the property located in an 1815 log cabin. The Mill and Welcome Center are open most Saturdays and Sundays from noon - 5 p.m. from Spring to Fall.
Within the last couple years, an 1880 sawmill and 7 more historic cabins were donated and moved to the site for restoration. Future plans include creating a historic village on the site.
Hours for the Pioneer Days at the Mill event are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $1 for anyone over the age of 12. The admission fee will go to support the volunteer effort at the Grist Mill.
