Wladimir Klitschko hires extra muscle for Shannon Briggs

Wladimir Klitschko has bolstered his security staff in response to the ongoing lunacy of former two-time heavyweight titlist Shannon Briggs.

Stalking the mammoth Ukrainian for in excess of a month, Briggs (55-6-1-1, 48 KOs) instigated a brawl with the 38-year-old Klitschko (62-3, 53 KOs) a week ago at a restaurant in South Florida.

“Until now it was funny, but not anymore,” said Berndt Boente, Wladimir’s manager.

Briggs last vacated the squared circle on June 28 after universally outscoring Brazilian Raphael Zumbano Love to capture the vacant NABA heavyweight strap.

A native Brooklynite, Briggs floored Love (34-8-1, 27 KOs) in the opening and final rounds.

Nicknamed “The Cannon,” Briggs has won four consecutive bouts since getting gruesomely defaced by Vitali Klitschko in October 2010.

“As soon as I see you, I will hit you in the face,” said Briggs, 42, who also interrupted one of Klitschko’s open media workouts in July.

“Your fat security guard approached me from the back and grabbed me. That’s cool. I even cut my foot on your glass jaw. Nobody cares about your fight against Pulev, while the entire world is talking about us.”

Comparatively, Klitschko will defend The Ring, WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight belts against mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev on September 6 at the O2 World Arena in Hamburg, Germany.

Most recently, without breaking a sweat, Klitschko pulverized Alex Leapai in April.

The 6-foot-6 Klitschko (62-3, 53 KOs) bullied the 6-foot Leapai (30-5-3, 24 KOs) to the canvas twice before ending the outclassed Australian with a huge right to the jaw with 58 seconds left in the fifth.

Currently ranked third in the pound-for-pound rankings, Klitschko has now emerged triumphant in 20 consecutive outings since suffering a TKO at the hands of Lamon Brewster in April 2004.

Even more impressively, Hayden Panettiere’s fiancé has won 16 straight title contests and remains a threat to Joe Louis’ longstanding record of 25 successful defenses.

As a 6-foot-4, 240-pound muscleman with extreme power, Briggs will always have a puncher’s chance and Klitschko doesn’t exactly own a granite chin.

Regardless, after the iconic pugilist knocks Pulev (20-0, 11 KOs) onto Queer Street, Wladimir Klitschko should teach Shannon Briggs that he’s not “funny.”
