WKU standout AJ Slaughter kills 'em at NBA cattle call

Western Kentucky University basketball standout AJ Slaughter killed 'em at the NBA pre-draft event in Portsmouth, Virginia this past weekend.

He scored 16 points per game with 3 assists per game. The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament invites 64 seniors to play in a four day, 12 game tourney in front of NBA scouts.

Norfolk Sports Club landed Slaughter and he finished in the top 10 in the league in scoring (T-8th) and three-point field goal percentage (9th), connecting on 5-of-12 attempts for 41.7 percent.

Slaughter played 25 minutes per game, and was named to the prestigious 12-member All-Tournament Team. wrote,

"Putting in what is likely the most impressive performance of the day, Slaughter was able to get anywhere that he wanted on the court, and get a good look every time he pulled the trigger. Playing more off the ball, he was able to spread the court with his outside shooting or attack for finishes in the paint. His jumper is extremely smooth and he is able to shoot with good rhythm and balance with a hand in his face and from beyond the arc."

"He has nice quickness and is a crafty operator off the dribble, allowing him to get into the middle of the defense where he showed a nice teardrop overtop of the helpside. Flashing his underrated athleticism, he was able to explode to the basket on one occasion and finish strong with a flush in semi traffic. Slaughter came in under the radar, but his performance today definitely put him on the map."

Slaughter will now await the 2010 NBA Draft on June 24 in New York City.
