WKRG-TV had plans to broadcast each of the three finalists in the Senior Bowl Superstar competition for 2013 singing "The Star-Spangled Banner", the national anthem of the United States, during a local news program on Tuesday, January, 8th, Wednesday, January 9th, and Thursday, January 10th between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. The station also had planned on rebroadcasting their performances on Friday, January 11th during the local news program they would broadcast during the same time period.
The station broadcast their plans for the finalists along with their names (Jones Colgrove, a student of U. S. Jones Elementary School in Demopolis, Alabama, Diane Swearingen, a teacher for Saint Luke's Episcopal School in Mobile, and Tiffany Davis, a teacher for Allentown Elementary School in Mobile) during the local 10:00 p.m. newscast they produced on Saturday, January 5th after broadcasting a report by Ali Holston, a producer and a weekend news reporter for the station, about how the finalists were chosen during an event held at the Mobile Civic Center in downtown Mobile on January 5th. Video of the report was uploaded onto the official World Wide Web site for the station also.
According to the official World Wide Web site for the Senior Bowl, after the station broadcasts the performances again on January 14th, folks who heard the performances would be allowed to vote for their favorite finalists based on their performances by visiting the site anytime between 8:00 a.m on Friday, January 11th and 12:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14th. After the end of the voting period, the name of the finalist with the most votes would be announced during the local news program the station would produce on January 14th between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. The finalist with the most votes would be allowed to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" in front of a crowd at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile on Saturday, January 26th just before the start of the Senior Bowl game scheduled to take place there (starting around 3:00 p.m.) and receive a prize of $1000 from IBERIABANK, the sponsor of the competition.
