On Saturday, September 28th, WKRG-TV broadcast two different local programming segments with announcements about the possibility of their programming not being available through the satellite TV system operated by Dish Network after Monday, September 30th, if their owners at Media General do not have a new retransmission consent deal with Dish Network by then.
The first programming segment had Jay Gardner, the main announcer for the station's local news programming, talking about the possibility while the words he said appeared in a scrolling manner from the bottom of the video to the top of the video (Jay Gardner did not appear in the segment). The second programming segment had Mark Bunting, the vice president and general manager of the station, talking about the possibility while appearing on the set of the local news programs produced by the station, specifically the area normally used for news and sports presentations (you may access video of the segment with Mark Bunting by visiting YouTube).
The first announcement was broadcast shortly before 8:30 p.m. after the end of a special local program about the WindCreek Casino & Hotel's "Wonders Over the Gulf Giveaway". The second announcement was broadcast immediately after the end of the first segment of the station's local 10:00 p.m. news program ("WKRG News 5 at 10").
