WJLA Breast exam video causes controversy

WJLA Washington aired a a breast self-examination (without concealing any part of the body) during a four-part news series on October 29 and 30.

The TV show called “Touch of Life: The Guide to Breast Self Examination” is in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, according to spokeswoman Abby Fenton.

Many women do not know how to do a proper self breast exam and wait until their annual doctor visit and let them do it, but finding that lump early can save a life. And this video is meant to help those women, but many people have complained that it is just a way to gain viewership during the first few days of the sweep period in early November, according to News Pak.

In Utah, the Girl Scouts of America chapter created a Facebook page for Breast Cancer Awareness Month so that the young girls would talk about breast cancer and understand why it is so important to do monthly self exams.
