WJBK General Manager’s death ruled a suicide

The Oakland County Medical Examiner ruled yesterday the death of Jeff Murri, General Manager of WJBK TV in Detroit (Fox 2) as a suicide.  Murri died of a single gunshot wound to the head at St, Irenaeus Catholic Church on Old Perch Road in Rochester Hills.

The suicide of the husband and father of two sons occurred Thursday afternoon.

“We knew him as a wonderful, energetic and giving person,” saysa statement on the Fox 2. “We are deeply saddened and shocked by his loss. He was more than our boss and our leader, he was a friend.”

Murri joined Fox 2 in 1984 and worked himself up to the General Manager position in 2001.

Murri was well respected for his work, earning the distinction “Local TV Executive of the Year” last December. The prestigious honor is awarded the group Broadcasting & Cable.

Services will be held at the same church where his life ended this Monday following a Sunday viewing at Modetz Funeral Home in Rochester.
