According to the press release, "Marvel Dice Masters brings Collectible Dice Building to the tabletop with an all-new head-to-head competitive game. Dice Masters is an all-new cross-brand offering designed by Michael Elliott and Eric M. Lang, which utilizes WizKids Games’ proprietary Dice Building Game platform where players collect and assemble their “team” of character dice and battle it out on the tabletop."
In addition to the press release, WizKids also released a How-To-Play video produced by "Watch It Played" host Rodney Smith. Based on the video alone, the game looks like a lot of fun. It incorporates many features such as luck and statistics. The dice are unique and colorful and should add to the collectibility. Fans of comic books should be excited as many of Marvel's popular characters will be featured in the game.
This isn't the first time WizKids has dabbled in the dice building genre. Past games include "Quarriors" and the recently released "Lord of the Rings Dice Building Game." In fact, those who have played them will notice that the games have many similarities. You could almost argue that "Dice Masters" is "Quarriors" but with a comic book theme. However, that should not deter you from trying the game when it is finally released. If you like one game, then you'll most likely enjoy the other.
The fact that "Dice Masters" is a collectible dice game helps separate it from the rest of the field. This means that you won't get all the dice available in one purchase. Booster packs will be available as well as a two-player starter set. Starter sets will contain 44 custom dice, 38 cards, two dice bags, and a rulebook. Boosters will come with two random dice and their associated playing cards.
They have also announced that expansions are already in the works.
"Dice Masters" is set to release this April. Starter sets are set to be $14.99 and boosters will be $0.99.
