According to the sales solicitation flyer for the Magic 2013 Core Set, Wizards of the Coast will be raising the MSRP of Magic: the Gathering Intro Packs from $12.99 to $14.99. After inquiring about a possible typo, Wizards of the Coast replied back confirming the price change along with an important reason for the two dollar price hike.
"The price is correct at $14.99, but the M13 Intro Packs will include two Boosters instead of just one."
A booster pack of Magic: the Gathering cards retails for $3.99. The addition of a second booster pack for just two dollars adds a significant value to the Magic: the Gathering Intro Packs.
Intro Packs serve dual purposes: they showcase a set's theme while also being the product aimed at new players. Intro Packs generally contain several bad cards on purpose. An example of this can be seen in the Monstrous Surprise Intro Pack. This is so the player can have a taste of deckbuilding, using the included booster pack to upgrade their deck. It also introduces new players to opening booster packs.
The M13 Intro Packs will still come with a premium foil rare, full 60 card deck, how to play insert, and tip guide.
