Wizards of the Coast neglects Urza's Hot Tub from 'Unhinged' (Photos)

Urza's Hot Tub is a wacky uncommon from Wizards of the Coast's joke "Magic: The Gathering" set "Unhinged" which sees very little love.

2, Discard a card: Search your library for a card that shares a complete word in its name with the discarded card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

It's without question that Urza's Hot Tub can be a powerful card in the right deck, and the key to abusing the card is to ensure that many of the cards share a common word together in their names. In traditional decks Urza's Hot Tub can be used to find missing combo pieces, such as discarding an Urza's Mine or Urza's Power Plant to acquire that elusive Urza's Tower. Alternatively, you could discard Urza's Mine to search up "Strip Mine" to lock down your opponent with Crucible of Worlds.

The variety of Commander makes it a great place to abuse Urza's Hot Tub if your playgroup allows silver bordered cards. One place Urza's Hot Tub excels is in tribal decks, such as with words like "sliver," "goblin," or "knight."

The website in Urza's Hot Tub's flavor text (www.wizards.com/hottub) is a real site that used to aid Urza's Hot Tub players with their deck construction. Unfortunately though, a quick check of several recent card names reveals a dirty secret: Wizards of the Coast hasn't updated the database of card names since "Betrayers of Kamigawa." A search of "Sphinx" yields only one result when there should have been 24.

While it's highly doubtful anyone will be creating an Urza's Hot Tub deck revolving around the word Sphinx in the near future this example really does highlight an interesting fact. In the last eight years R&D has increased the amount of Sphinx cards in the game by an astounding 2,400 percent. That's quite a lot.
