Thursday, March 7, 2013 Wizards of the Coast announced that they'll be introducing special new promotional codes to "Magic Online." These new codes will unlock digital objects into player's collections. "Magic Online" promo codes can be obtained by "purchasing specific products, attending events and conventions, or even just interacting with us through social media."
According to the "Magic Online" business manager Chris Kiritz:
As Magic continues to grow, we are constantly looking for additional ways to engage our audience and provide ways that we can integrate the paper and online experiences. We are pleased to announce that on March 13 we will be launching the Magic Online Promotional Code program. This program will provide new ways to unite paper and digital Magic experiences and give us another way we can reward our player for a variety of different brand interactions.
Wizards of the Coast currently integrates the paper "Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters" TCG with its online counterpart through unique promo codes found in each booster pack. If each booster pack of "Magic: The Gathering" cards unlocked a random card from the same set in "Magic Online" it could easily drive a massive influx of users to the program. Logic says they'd be non-redeemable items.
The first free "Magic Online" promo code is for Avacyn's Pilgrim.
Can't figure out how to redeem a "Magic Online" promo code? You'll need to have the new "Magic Online" beta to enter the promo codes in the "Magic Online" store. You can download it at http://mtgoclientdepot.onlinegaming.wizards.com/setup.exe.
