Today, Jan. 30, 2013 Wizards of the Coast announced exciting news for "Kaijudo" players: Organized play. Four new "Kaijudo" event types were detailed, ranging from weekly local in-store offerings where players can earn special promotional cards to a competiive national event players must qualify for. The new "Kaijudo" events (Set Premiere, Duel Day, Master Challenge and a "Kaijudo" Championship) will help add incentives for players to improve their game, obtain cards for their decks, and compete at a higher skill level.
"Kaijudo" Set Premiere
Starting on March 16, 2013 players will be able to celebrate the launch of the newest "Kaijudo" expansion set "DragonStrike Infernus." Participating players will have the chance to earn exclusive promotional cards while playing with the newest set. "Set Premiere will be held every first Saturday following a Kaijudo expansion release."
"Kaijudo" Duel Day
Starting on April 5, 2013 "Kaijudo" players of "all ages and skill levels" can fight with their favorite creatures in this special weekly tournament where they can "win awesome promo cards." After the first Duel Day season concludes on April 30, 2013 a new season will begin on May 3, 2013 utilizing "a specialized point accumulation system will allow players to earn points and see where they rank against other Kaijudo players, while simultaneously showing off their own achievements."
"Kaijudo" Master Challenge
Starting on May 3, 2013 players can compete in special events with even larger prizes on the line. You'll need to choose a Civilization, and "each player who chooses the winning Civilization will receive a prize. The top-placing finisher for every Civilization will earn a Civilization Prize Pack and the overall top two finishers in the Master Challenge will win invites to the coveted Kaijudo Championship."
We emailed Wizards of the Coast for clarification on if the choice of Civilization impacted your deck building for the event.
"During a Master Challenge, it’s not required for players to play with cards from the civilization that they choose. Players will just be encouraged to pick their favorite civilization or the one they identify with the most. Their choice doesn’t have an effect on the cards they can play or vice versa."
Kaijudo Championship
In the summer of 2013 48 of the nation's best "Kaijudo" players will compete in an "ultimate tournament" in Seattle, Wash. for the coveted title as the "Kaijudo" Champion. Attendees will also have the chance to "meet with the makers of the Kaijudo TCG and contribute to the development of the game."
