The set marks the return of Sarkan Vol. On Sarkan Vol's home plane "once upon a time there were mighty dragons, but they were killed off. He came to worship the dragons but on his plane they were all dead. Which is why when he became a planeswalker and got to go to other worlds and sees dragons he got really excited," says Mark Rosewater, who's the lead designer on Khans of Tarkir. Erik Lauer led the development team for the set.

The Khans of Tarkir block follows a large small large set format, however there will be a "surprise" in how it works.

In a cryptic manner that he's known best for, Rosewater teases players with additional information that could mean just about anything.

We're bringing back something that people have been asking for a while. We're also creating something that people want that we've never done before.

This statement could be interpreted almost any way we want. Return keywords/abilities/mechanics that haven't come back yet are most likely, although it could also signify reprints of specific card cycles - most notably the original five allied fetchlands like Polluted Delta from the Onslaught block which are legal in Legacy and not in Modern where the other five enemy fetchlands currently run around lonely.

Let the speculation begin.

What do players want to see that we've never seen before? Please share your opinions with us in the comment section.

Khans of Tarkir hits store shelves on Sept. 26, 2014. The official Twitter hash tag is #MTGKTK.
