The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley is opening soon at Universal Studios Florida. Although Universal Orlando has yet to make an official announcement about the date of the grand opening, it is coming very soon because E! will air a “Live from the Red Carpet: Diagon Alley” event Friday, June 20 at 8p.m.
There aren’t any details yet about who will appear, but it’s certain that some favorite stars of the Harry Potter film franchise will be on hand for the TV special. Last week Universal Orlando released a video featuring Bobbie Wright (Ginny Weasley), James Phelps (Fred Weasley), and Oliver Phelps (George Weasley) touring Diagon Alley, and riding on the Hogwarts Express. They might be good bets to appear on the red carpet.
Universal Orlando also recently released some details in a blog on their site about what muggle visitors can experience at Diagon Alley. Visitors will first enter the London street front, where they can see Kreacher the Black family house elf peering out the window of Number 12 Grimmauld Place. Nearby is the Knight Bus, where people can interact with the driver.
Muggles can then pass through the brick wall to Diagon Alley and make a right into Carkitt Market, where there are live shows daily. The Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts will perform “The Tales of Beedle the Bard,” a trunk show featuring puppetry. The second show is Molly Weasley’s favorite singer, Celestina Warbek, and her group the Banshees.
Next, make a stop at Gringotts Money Exchange, where muggle money can be exchanged for wizarding currency. It can be used to make purchases within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as well as in Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida. The money will be exchanged by a goblin.
Diagon Alley looks to be a truly magical fairy land for visitors. For more information visit the official website of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
