Wizard World and Awesome Fest celebrate 30 year anniversary of The Karate Kid

Few movies made recently stand out and are as iconic as The Karate Kid. Released during the summer of 1984, it portrays a Jersey transplant kid Daniel Laruso (played by Ralph Macchio) who gets bullied by a bunch of goons who know karate. They are taught by a karate instructor, with a poor attitude. John Kreese ( played by Martin Kove). . Kreese wants blood when his students fight. Both Kove and Macchio are at Wizard World this week in Philadelphia to help celebrate this event.

Last night, June 19, 2014 the movie was shown for free with a brief Q&A afterwards. Fans learned different tidbits about the movie. Macchio said that he had about seven weeks of karate training going into the movie.. Kove cited the "Relationship between Daniel and Mr.Miyagi " as the cornerstone of the movie. Part of that relationship stems from Miyagi calling Macchio "Daniel Son" . Both Macchio and Kove are going to be at Wizard World until Sunday June 22 , 2014. Breakout your VHS copies of the movie, bring them down and get it signed.

Friday really kicks off the con with appearances by Christopher Lloyd and Whoopi Goldberg among the headliners. This year, the convention seems more streamlined. "We revamped it,made it more efficient than in the past", said John Macaluso, CEO of Wizard World. When asked for an attendance estimate, he could only say"Thousands".

While a lot of the vendors are selling t shirts, some are selling books, such as insults,or a book on how to make your cat an internet celebrity. Other places have small electronics for sale Speaking of cats, John Macaluso let the cat out of the bag to Examiner.com. "We are holding two conventions in Philadelphia next year,one around this time and the other is a horror convention. That will take place around Halloween," Macaluso said.

Wizard World runs until Sunday.
