Well it didn't take long for the hordes of mid westerns to storm into the America's Center for the return of Wizard World St. Louis. Yes the annual comic con festival is on tour once again and has nestled in our back yard of St. Louis Missouri. What patrons that attended last year will notice upon arriving is that the layout of the con is completely different and set inside the stadium of the St. Louis Rams which provides so much more room. Also this years major panels will be held in the Ferrara theater which should provide great acoustics and picture opportunities. Although we clearly noticed in the sparkling new magazine style program that there seems to be more restrictions on what patrons can do. We also have to check what limitations we may have to snag photos of panel discussions and celebs as there seems to be a heavy emphasis on the picture taking. We aren't too worried as we feel there is enough going on to satisfy the palate of any geek at this years con.
Some of the things we saw on Day 1 included Lou Ferrigno getting interviewed over and over as he got set for Day 1. Familiar faces of artist and vendors both locally and regionally putting together their work with tons to sale. There are a few artists in particular that we are looking forward to interviewing about their con experience so look out for that. In need of a date for this weekends con? Well they have a speed dating room “Sci-Fi Speed Dating” where convention gatherers can find that special someone one to watch Battle star Galactica DVDs with. Fridays panels included the Super Secret History of St. Louis Comics, The start of the Wizard World Film Festival, Costumes + Playing = Cos play What Does That Really Mean, and more. The film festival is screening all shorts ranging from horror to animated and we have contacted a few of the directors to review them. If we are able to acquire the horror films they will be displayed on a special spotlight edition on HorrorMoviesUncut.com.
Since the set up and layout is completely different it gave us a great perspective on how exciting this weekend will be. Saturday will be insane so make sure you follow my twitter page for live updates!
Outside of the celebrities the biggest draw of the convention is the cos play fans. Within the first hour of the convention opening we already witnessed over 80 participants in costumes but that number ballooned by the end of the night. There are some that have returned from last year in different garb while others are remaining loyal to their favorites. This is always been one the intriguing aspects of conventions that can draw a mainstream audiences so look for tons of pictures from this weekend.
Well day is in the books and Saturday will be the complete overhaul on the con. We will try and provide as much coverage as we can during the busy day and we hope to see you at this years Wizard World St.Louis 2014!
