Witness reports hovering lights shoot into sky near Peru, Indiana

An Indiana witness traveling along Route 31 near the Route 24 intersection reports watching hovering lights that moved for a few seconds before shooting straight up into the sky and quickly disappearing on January 29, 2012, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

"The lights hovered, and then went right for about 5 seconds," the witness stated. "Then it stopped for 2 or 3 seconds, and then went straight up until it disappeared."

The witness rules out a few explanations.

"It was a clear night and you could see the stars. Believe me when I tell you it was not after burners, and it wasnt chaff flairs. I grew up on Gris. Air Base. My Dad was stationed there. Nothing could move that fast and the disappear."

The witness also reports a problem with the vehicle radio at the time.

"The closer I got to where I first seen it, my radio buzzed out for a second."

The intersection of U.S. Route 24 and U.S. Route 31 is just northwest of Peru, IN. No images or videos were included with the MUFON report, which was filed on January 30, 2012. The incident occurred on January 29, 2012. The above quotes were edited for clarity.

Indiana is a current UFO ALERT 5 rating,
with a low number of UFO sightings nationally. Indiana had 5 reports in December, the 34th highest reporting state - while California had 63 reports in December 2011 - the highest reporting state in the nation.
