Truth is stranger than fiction. Unless things change, it appears that Kim Kardashian, who recently announced her pregnancy, will still be married to Kris Humphries when she gives birth to Kanye West's child.
The report regarding the ongoing legal proceedings appeared on Wednesday. A source close to the situation said:
Unless Kim Kardashian gives in to Kris' demand that she admit the marriage fraudulent, the divorce proceedings will still be ongoing and she will still be legally married to him when she gives birth.
Kardashian is about three months pregnant. Given that, she will probably give birth in late June.
The next court appearance for the Kardashian / Humphries lawyers to meet is -- ironically -- Friday, February 15, the day after Valentine’s Day. That appearance will only be used to set a date for the actual trial. Problematically for Kardashian, the earliest the trial can be scheduled would be the middle of June because of Humphries' NBA schedule.
The NBA playoffs don't conclude until June, and Humphries team, the Brooklyn (formerly New Jersey) Nets, is in second place in its division.
Humphries is seeking the return ofthe 20.5 carat Elaine Schwartz diamond ring he gave to Kardashian back. The ring is worth some $2 million, and Humphries and Kardashian's marriage lasted a total of 72 days.
The source added,
Kris isn't trying to drag this out, but he wants to be vindicated in court. Kris will see this through to the end.
The reality TV star's lawyers don't agree. Her lawyer, Laura Wasser, told the judge during a November hearing that her client was being kept "handcuffed" to Humphries as he refuses to grant her a divorce, insisting that the former couple head to trial. Wasser said,
Ms. Kardashian is now handcuffed to Kris Humphries. These delays are forcing her to be married. She wants to dissolve her marriage so she can move on with her life. I don't think [Kris] has a case, it's a fishing expedition.
Humphries' attorney Marshall Waller replied:
All she has to do is agree to an annulment.
Kardashian, though, doesn't want to agree to an annulment. Humphries claims the marriage is fraudulent, and the source clarified Kardashian's stance: It's all about money.
Kim is refusing to cave to any of Kris' demands. She has moved on with her life, and she won't agree to an annulment on grounds that the marriage was fraudulent because it would cause catastrophic damage to her brand.
