Like many expecting fathers David Beckham put his customized Porsche 911 Cabriolet on the market at about the same time as he announced that his wife Victoria Beckham was pregnant with their fourth child, due later this year.
Beckham, the sole owner of the 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet with 6,774 miles on it, purchased it new at Beverly Hills Porsche with a sticker price of $145,790. Beckham spent nearly $100,000 more to paint the convertible matte black with Beckham's Los Angeles Galaxy jersey number 23 all over. The number is featured on the front hood, deck lids, rims, steering wheel, and is also embroidered on the front and rear seats and floor mats.
The car was listed on eBay by Checquered Flag International, a classic car dealer in Marina Del Ray, CA. The winning total was an astounding $217,000 placed by a bidder in England.
Chequered Flag owner Neil Jaffe told Edmunds Inside Line that he has pulled the vehicle off the online auction Web site after repeated attempts to contact the top bidder were ignored.
The California dealer also tried contacting six individuals who bid more than $209,000 for the but not one of them returned his calls and e-mails. Jaffe had already disqualified $2,000,000 eBay bids early in the weeklong auction, according to Inside Line.
"It really would be comical if it weren't quite so sad," Jaffe said in a phone interview with Inside Line. "When they don't follow through with the purchase, eBay calls it 'joy bidding.' It's really taken the wind out of my sails."
A significant part of the draw to bidders was that Beckham had been regularly photographed by paparazzi in the Porsche with wife Victoria, fashion icon and former Spice Girl.

See how many times you can count the number "23" on the car.
I count at least 9: One on each wheel, one on the hood, and on each seat. Did I miss any?
I think that's about nine too many! ;-)
Excuse me, but Beckham has sold this car waaayyyyyyy before he knew his wife is pregnant! In fact..it's NOT him who put the car on e-bay, but this guy Jaffe who put it! Which means..either Jaffe was the one who bought it from Beckham last year or he auctioning it for someone else who bought the car from Beckham. Either way...Beckham sell the car to someone else and that someone decided to make more money out of this car by auctioning it. Full stop.
