With the holidays over, fight the winter blahs with an IGO winter class

Don't let the winter chill send you into hibernation. Come out for fun classes with Cleveland Metroparks Institute of the Great Outdoors (IGO).

IGO provides a wide range of outdoor experiences to people of all abilities. Participants can enjoy the knowledge and expertise of seasoned instructors with all IGO courses and have fun at the same time.

IGO classes in January and February include:

Ohio Boaters Education
February 2
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Garfield Park Nature Center
Garfield Park Reservation

Before boating season starts, learn tools to becoming a safe boater. This class teaches topics, including fundamentals of safe boating, state boating laws and more. The last session includes a test for certification of completion. The course meets the mandatory education requirement for those persons born on or after January 1, 1982 who plan to operate a watercraft of ten horsepower or greater. Bring a lunch. Fee: $25 (adults), $15 (ages 13-16)

Digital Camera I
Introduction to Photography

Bring a digital SLR or "point & shoot" camera to learn the basics of how it works. This class focuses on styles of photography, technical aspects of shooting, lenses and their uses and more. Participants look at the parts of the camera and lenses, as well as discuss the different adjustments and how they affect photos. Gain an artistic eye and begin to think beyond "pointing and clicking." After the classroom portion, spend some time with IGO staff practicing and experimenting.
Fee: $20 (ages 14 & up)

How to Survive Just About Anything: Part 1

Natural disasters have been on the minds of many people lately. This class provides the tools to prepare for an emergency. With proper planning and the right kit, one stands a greater chance of surviving winter storms, tornadoes, floods and other disasters. Get resources to begin making disaster kits for home and on the road and discover how to reuse old camping gear.
Fee: $15 (ages 14 & up)
