With Marcum out with sore elbow, Brewers look to minors' star Thornburg

It was speculated that the Milwaukee Brewers would need to make a move at pitcher Monday evening when manager Ron Roenicke said that someone would be called up from the minors to pitch Tuesday.

Nobody really knew who it was going to be, except for Roenicke. And then earlier this morning the rumors circulated that it was going to be Class AA Huntsville righty Tyler Thornburg.

Around mid day the Brewers made it official that Thornburg would be called up and struggling utility player Brooks Conrad would again be designated for assignment.

Thornburg had 13 starts for Huntsville and recorded an 8-1 record with a 3.00 ERA. Thornburg thought earlier today he was being promoted to AAA (Nashville), this appears to be a much better promotion.

Conrad, who could not find the baseball when he was hitting, will either be traded, released or accept another assignment at AAA Nashville. The Bewers and Conrad have 10 days to make that decision.

The Brewers face the Toronto Blue Jays tonight in Milwaukee at 7:10 p.m. in what could be a highly attended game due to the excitement aroud Thornburg.
