“With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story” screening was held at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, CA on Sunday November 7th, 2010. Four plus years in the making, (they’re still working on some special added features), the feature length documentary, first debuted during Comic-Con International in San Diego in July.
With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story, does an incredible job exploring the man behind the most recognized name in the comic book industry, Stan Lee. The documentary grabs you right from the start by opening with Stan Lee being presented with the National Medal Of Arts Award by President Bush. The film then takes the viewer on a wonderful visual journey, using a number of illustrations and special motion effects.
The story is told beautifully! Throughout the film you feel as though you have been personally invited into a behind the scenes look at the life of Stan Lee. The film shares stories through Stan Lee’s own words, as well as intimate moments with his family, friends, comic book creators, actors, and film producers.
The film takes you inside Stan Lee’s vivid imagination, gives you a look at his incredible work ethic, from his early years at Timely Comics, the time he spent in the military, the comic book industry’s censorship battle, the birth of Marvel Comics, TV shows, movies, to his current endeavors with his company POW! Entertainment.
With Great Power: The Stan Lee story takes the audience on quite a ride! Throughout the screening, the audience laughed, cried, and applauded, in all the right places. In the end, as the theater emptied, you felt as though everyone was not only inspired, but they now carry with them a better understanding about the greatest comic book super hero of our time, Stan “The Man” Lee.
